Dutchland Derby Rollers
The Dutchland Derby Rollers (DDR) are committed to athleticism and sportswomanship, raising awareness about and furthering the sport of roller derby. The DDR continue developing the strength of their league with competitive interleague bouting as members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association. The DDR believe all people are important and should be treated with equality and respect. Embodying the values of friendship, empowerment, dedication, discipline and a “for the skater, by the skater” philosophy, they demonstrate positive roles for women and act as contributing members of their local community, giving back through outreach, volunteerism and fundraising.

-DDR’s Values and Mission Statement

The Dutchland Derby Rollers (DDR) landed skates-first onto the Lancaster scene in 2006 bringing action-packed family entertainment to the Susquehanna Valley along with their winning mission to act as positive role models, form partnerships with local and national charities, and promote the athleticism and sportswomanship of modern flat-track roller derby.

Dutchland demonstrates just what a grassroots group of dedicated individuals can achieve. In a little over four years, this do-it-yourself group of upstarts has put their volunteer-run organization on the map. Taking a non-traditional business stance, Dutchland empowers its’ league-members, mentoring and teaching business skills and operating with a “for the skater, by the skater” philosophy. League members handle all aspects of the businesses operation–everything from promotion, bout production, and competition at events. DDR is a rising star in the national roller derby world (rising to the level of 12th on the East Coast currently) and on the local scene (winning a Parks and Recreation award for event production in our first season).

This is a business with a purpose. We’re no ordinary Dutchies! We celebrate our membership and community as a diverse group from all walks of life. In our ranks you’ll find mothers, students, small business owners, professionals, artists, scientists and many more! You’ll see the dynamic energy that is the heart of Dutchland at each one of our events from the art featured on our bout covers and flyers, to the creative names, costumes, promotion and half-time entertainment offered.

Dutchland is united in our love of community and make affirmation of that through our charitable partnerships. To date, Dutchland has raised over $15,000 in funds for organizations such as the American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association, United Against Puppy Mills, Cancer Aid of Gap, Planned Parenthood, Lancaster Public Library System, Chrohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and many others. Our mission is not just lending financial support, but also raising awareness and aid through volunteer efforts. Our endeavor continues this season as Dutchland’s partners will include Red Rose K-9 Search and Rescue, Lancaster Farmland Trust, the Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals (ORCA), Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster, and Camp Susquehanna for Burn Victims. A portion of each home bout’s proceeds will financially support these charities and outreach and volunteer efforts from the league will be offered in addition.

As proud members of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, DDR draws the attention of derby enthusiasts to our community bringing nationally ranked leagues to Lancaster to compete at our home rink, Overlook Activities Center, 2040 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA. Each home game will bring a double shot of roller derby action with double-header match-ups. Both of Dutchland’s teams, the All-Stars (A-Team) and the Blitz (B-Team) will be propelling Lancaster to victory at the following home bouts:

Saturday, March 13, 201 – All-Stars vs. DC Rollergirls All-Stars; Blitz vs. DC

Saturday, May 15, 2010 – All-Stars vs. Connecticut RollerGirls; Blitz vs. TBA

Write From The Heart is an invitation to free the spirit and imagination in an atmosphere of warmth and trust. Its goal is to inspire – and delight – by reawakening our creative lives. Using gentleness as a catalyst for reflection and healing, it’s especially for those who have always longed to write, but thought they couldn’t.

Write From The Heart isn’t about grammar, spelling or punctuation, but what we long to express, deep down. It’s about discovering that writing brings us joy. There are no graded tests, pressure or anxiety. Classes are a safe haven where writing can be fun, freeing, and a means to hope and self-esteem.

Learn the languages that bring the mind to life!

We provide serious, invigorating, and enjoyable instruction in the Greek and Latin languages for children and adults. Through these languages and their literatures we seek to engage, enliven, and deepen the minds of our students. Our progressive approach allows even young students to undertake this study in a manner and in a setting that welcomes, challenges, encourages, and helps the student to grow.

The study of Greek and Latin is important in its own right, but it also enhances and supports development in all other areas of study, including mathematics and the natural sciences. On the simplest level, Latin and Greek studies awaken students to a new and richer understanding of words. Their deepened understanding of words leads them to a richer understanding of meaning, which leads them in turn to a fuller understanding of the world and of themselves.

Study options include beginning-level classes. Rediscover why for centuries the study of Latin and Greek has held, and still deserves to hold a central place in a student’s education.
