Call me corny – but I adore the “old fashioned” Fourth of July at Musser Park! I mean a cakewalk? That’s great stuff. Now if only the New Holland band would come back…..
Summer is all about visiting on the front porch and walking to dinner – or ice cream at The Creamery!
For us, summer is about hanging out at Central Market–walking around, getting great local foods, and enjoying our city.

From Penn Square to Binns Park through the shops at 300 all the way to the train station. Queen street is an adventure on its own. :]

There are so many things we love about Lancaster, but Central Market tops the list any time of year. Barnstormers baseball, 300 Block of N Queen Block Party, Binns Park, The Creamery, Chestnut Hill Cafe, Prince Street Cafe…all great on a nice day.
I like 1st Fridays, shopping at the vintage stores, Barnstormers and Central Market
Barnstormers games, of course! And the mountain of ice cream that comes in a “small”. Warm nights, cold ice cream, watching a ball game—nothing better than that.
I love First Fridays with freinds, on a warm summer day, Lancaster museum of art and stopping ni all the local galleries!
My boys love the trolley and central market!!!

i love going to market and getting a cookie (or two or three) from wendy jo’s and then walking around trying to find some hidden treasures in the city that i’ve never been to or seen before!
We love it all! I grew up walking to market on Saturday mornings with my grandfather, eating at the diner at Watt & Shands with my grandmother, and hearing story after story from my mom about how much there was to see & do downtown was when she was a kid. I’ve always loved downtown Lancaster….even when it was at it’s lowest point not so many years ago. I am so excited that my kids get to experience this fresh, new, exciting downtown!!! A few of our favorite things are: lunch on the patio at Character’s, playing in the fountain at Binn’s Park, First Fridays, Music Fridays, Building Character, Rachel’s, Cross Keys, and of course market. Oh, and how could we forget….The Barnstormers!!!!! I think we are so lucky to live here.

Wish You Were Here has the best pancakes. They are great for breakfast after you’ve had plenty of the beer at The Iron Hill Bewery the night before!
Nothing is better than enjoying Market fresh food al fresco in Steinman park. Taking in the fragrant air around the rose garden at Buchanan park is also wonderful.

We often walk up to the Eastern Market as well. I think our favorite Summer activity is Sunday evenings in Long’s Park for the Free Summer Concert Series. I am thrilled with all the amazing art galleries in downtown Lancaster. We spend many an afternoon browsing through each gallery, taking notes on our favorites. My home has the works of several downtown artists. My wedding was at the Mulberry Art Studio 11 years ago. But my favorite location is The Fulton. I grew up with a children’s theater series years before the renovation and continue to make it to shows there each year. I can’t wait to take my baby there when she’s a little older. Truly the gem of the city.
Fig, you rock! There has been such a wonderful change in Lancaster in the seven years we have lived here! What a vital, interesting, and growing city. Lancaster is a hidden gem in the state, and we all owe it to ourselves and this wonderful place to shout from the rooftops about how much we love it here. Fig, you lead the way. thanks!!!
My family enjoys the entire downtown experience, be it one of the markets, the fig store, PCA&D’s gallery, or the niche park at the Pressroom. Love it all!

Recent immigrants from philadelphia, we absolutely love wandering through the city in the summer and exploring all that the city has to offer… we love to frequent the shops like details and sit out front at rachel’s or on the patio at annie bailey’s and soak up the summer sun… we typically end at central market to pick up fresh local ingredients for the week and mandros for the delicious cheese and olive selection… then head to longs park with a freshly packed picnic to enjoy their summer concert series with friends…
