As we head to The Big Apple, curiosity burns a hole in my mind. What will the new trends and styles be for Spring 2012? I’ve only gotten a small preview so far from vendors I’ve seen for road appointments. I will share those trends with you later on. My day begins with a mad dash to the train station in downtown Harrisburg. I’m always nervous I’m going to be late, a typical trait of mine due to the fact that I am always adding stuff to my suitcase for fear I will “need” it or have an emergency. The weather finally broke, so the “shoe situation” is always an issue. You really need to dress for comfort, but at the Coterie you don’t feel sufficient surrounded by fashionistas! Plus, you get inspired by all of the staff representing the companies we choose to look at decked out in the latest and greatest. Your mind gets spinning and your creativity begins to flourish. My first thought when I see them is: “How can I translate that trend back in Lancaster, Pa and back at Pappagallo?” Two separate thoughts two separate challenges. Let’s get back to my morning………………I board the train and look for the double back-to-back seats at the end of the cars because they are a little roomier and people don’t tend to sit with you, always a plus! Then I get situated and ride for about 20 brief minutes before my friend and employee, Penny, joins me in Lancaster. We both are so excited and nervous that our mouths go “a mile a minute” and before we know it we are in New York City. Impatient passengers rush beside our seats to exit the train before we can even stand up. We hurriedly grab our belongings and scatter towards the stairs. When we reach the top and file in with the crowds we only have one goal in mind: Get to the street level! The familiar aromas of soft pretzels and coffee fill the air and we make our way to the escalator trying to find and even balance between our handbags and our luggage. Cigarette smoke rushes in my face when I reach the top and cab horns blare. Ahhhh back in the Big Apple! The rat race begins!
A sneak peek at Spring 2012: dolman sleeves, bold stripes, more affordable cashmere prices, tunics, wide legs, skinnies, ombre just to name a few. Stay tuned for an update in a week in my next blog.
